Exterior Color Inspiration: Blue/Black
Choosing a paint color is always intimidating. How are we supposed to pick one color, ONE, out of thousands and thousands of options? And then there’s finding the right brand and right paint finish – do we use Kelly Moore, Benjamin Moore, Sherman Williams, Farrow & Ball, Valspar and are we supposed to use Eggshell, Gloss, Semi-Gloss, Satin, or Matte (more on that in a later post). A lot of decisions need to be made when choosing a paint color…let alone an exterior paint color. For the exterior of our new house, I’ve been dreaming about a dark, dark grayish blue hue or soft black which I have seen used in a lot of Scandinavian design and now more and more in SF and Oakland. The above photo is of a freshly painted house in SF’s Mission district that I stopped in my tracks to creepily snap a photo of. What I love most about this house is that none of the craftsman detailing has been lost but the house has a modern edginess to it while still fitting in with it’s surroundings. The power of paint people, the power of paint!
For the exterior of our own house, I am extremely excited to be partnering with Benjamin Moore to find the perfect blueish black color. I’m thinking of adding some contrast with a bright white trim, light wood and of course some cool green plants…drought tolerant of course! I will be doing a post once I actually get samples to test out but for now here is some of the inspiration I am going off of and some of the top paint colors I am hoping to test out.
I headed to the Benjamin Moore showroom in the SF Design Center to pick up a few sample swatches to bring home and gaze at. These are my top choices that I am thinking I will get actual paint samples of to try out. Which one is your favorite?
